New UK Travel Requirements: 2026 Update

Starting February 25, 2026, the UK is strictly enforcing its Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system, requiring all visa-exempt visitors from 85 countries to obtain a digital travel permit before boarding planes, ferries, or trains. Airlines are now mandated to deny boarding to passengers lacking this digital authorization.

Key Details on the New UK Entry Rules

  • Who Needs an ETA: Nationals from 85 countries that previously did not require a visa (including USA, Canada, Australia, and European nations) must apply for an ETA.
  • Validity & Cost: The UK ETA costs £26, is linked directly to your passport, and is valid for multiple visits over two years.
  • No Exceptions: The rule applies to travelers, including babies and children, as well as those transiting through the UK who pass through passport control.
  • Dual Citizens: British and Irish citizens are exempt, but dual nationals cannot use a foreign passport to get an ETA and must present a valid British/Irish passport or a Certificate of Entitlement to avoid being denied boarding.
  • Application Process: Apply via the official UK ETA Portal. While most applications are approved in minutes, officials recommend allowing 3 working days for processing.
  • Where to Apply: Use Our official UK ETA Portal to apply, as this is the only authorized source.

Consequences of Non-Compliance

  • Denied Boarding: Carriers are legally required to verify your, eVisa, or ETA before you board, turning away anyone without it.
  • No Appeal: If your application is refused, there is no right of appeal.

It is highly recommended to check your eligibility and apply for the ETA well in advance of your trip to avoid disruption.

What's New?

  • Easy Application: You can apply for your UK ETA online. It only takes a few minutes.

  • Fast Processing: Most applications are approved within 3 working days.

  • Multiple Visits: The ETA lasts for 2 years, and you can visit the UK several times during that period. Each visit can last up to 6 months.

Why Do You Need It?

  • It helps the UK screen travelers before they arrive and makes the entry process faster at the border.

  • If you’re in a creative job, you can stay for up to 3 months without needing a full work visa.
