Option 1: Check Your Email

What Each Status Means
Once you check, you will see one of these results. Here is what each one means in plain language.
Approved
You are cleared to travel. Nothing to print, nothing to show at check-in.
Your ETA is stored digitally and linked to your passport in the UK government’s system. When you check in for your flight, the airline verifies it automatically. When you arrive at a UK airport, Border Force sees it the same way. You do not need to carry any document or printout.
The only rule: you must travel with the exact same passport you used to apply. If you have since renewed your passport or gotten a new one, your ETA is no longer valid. You would need to apply again.
Pending
Your application has been received and is still being processed. This is completely normal.
Most applications get a decision within minutes. Some go through additional automated checks that take up to 24 hours. A smaller number are sent to a Home Office staff member for manual review, which can take up to 3 working days.
Pending does not mean something is wrong. It just means the system has not finished yet. Do not submit a new application while this one is still open. Just wait.

Under Review
This means a real person at the Home Office is looking at your application.
It does not automatically mean a refusal is coming. It usually means the system could not confirm something automatically, such as your identity, or there is a detail in your application that needs a closer look.
Check your email. UKVI may have sent a message asking you to provide more information. If they did, reply as quickly as you can. Slow responses can delay your result further.
If there is no email asking for anything, just wait. Manual reviews typically take up to 3 working days.
Refused
Your ETA has not been approved. UKVI will include the reason in the decision email they send you.
There is no formal appeal process for a refused ETA. However, you can apply again if you believe incorrect information caused the refusal. If you still plan to travel to the UK, you would need to apply for a standard UK visa instead.

What If My Status Has Not Changed After 3 Days?
If it has been less than 3 working days, wait. The system is built to handle that window, and most delayed applications resolve within it.
If it has been more than 3 working days with no update and no email from UKVI, you can reach out to UKVI through their official webchat on GOV.UK. Do not submit a new application hoping to speed things up. It will not help and may make things more complicated.

It went to spam. Check your spam and junk folders first. Search for “UKVI” or “ETA” inside your inbox.
